SUPPORTING VICTIMS WITH AN INTELLECTUAL

AND/OR DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY

 

 

JANUARY 30, 2015 1:00 pm-4:00 pm (registration begins at 12:30)

DALLAS CHILDRENS’ ADVOCACY CENTER (5351 Samuel Blvd Dallas, TX)

 

Topics to be covered include:

  • Defining intellectual, cognitive, and developmental disabilities (IDD) to recognize behavior and better serve clients. 
  • Learn the roles of a Court Appointed Guardian for  people with IDD
  • Discuss therapeutic tools when working with these individuals in counseling
  • Access support system for IDD clients that are victims of sexual assault

 

This training session qualifies for 3.0 continuing education hours for Social Work, LPC, and LMFT.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

La Freda A. Smith, B.S. Criminal Justice

Director of Guardianship & Money Management, The Arc

La Freda has worked with individuals with intellectual and other related disabilities for over 20 years. She holds a National Guardian Certification as well as being a Texas Certified Guardian

 

Tameca Morris, MA., PsyD Candidate

Life Coach, Arc of Dallas; Counselor-Intern,  Behavioral Health and Family Services

Tameca has 15 years of experience in the mental health field. She is in the process of completing her doctorate   degree in Psychology.

 

Maria Molett, LPCS, LSOTPS

Executive Director of the Counseling Institute of Texas, Inc.

Maria has worked with children who are victims of sexual abuse and developed programs that focus on treating the family of the victim and the offender.  She also developed community education programs to prevent child abuse and began a non-profit community counseling agency to provide low cost therapy to children and their families
